The Flood

By shaunefc, Feb 3 2014 02:18PM

We have been experiencing many weeks of steady and heavy rain, along with flooding in various parts of the country. Like people in current times, those in the time of the Biblical flood (Genesis 6-8) saw the storm clouds gathering. Like people in current times, those in the the time of these chapters in Genesis had a warning, indeed, for those before the great flood had a very long-term warning for it extended to the whole time that Noah was building the ark! They were even given a short-term warning after Noah took his family and all the animals which God had brought together into the ark lasting another 7 days - and still those of Noah's time ignored any and all warnings they were given, for I am sure the people would have asked Noah what he was doing and in his reply he would have warned the people concerning what God was going to do. And the ark itself was clear evidence of what was going to take place as day by day and week by week it began to take shape before being fitted out - everything being done according to the plans which God gave to Noah.

In the time immediately before the great flood happened all the people except Noah's close family totally ignored all the warnings, both spoken and visual, until the time when it was ultimately too late to do anything at all about what was happening, and they all perished in the deep flood:

"Now the flood was on the earth forty days. The waters increased and lifted up the

ark, and it rose high above the earth. The waters prevailed and greatly increased

on the earth, and the ark moved about on the surface of the waters. And the

waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole

heaven were covered. The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the

mountains were covered. And all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and

cattle and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every

man. All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the

dry land, died. So he destroyed all living things which were on the face of the

ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of the air. They were

destroyed from the earth.

Only Noah and those who were with him ... remained alive." (Genesis 7:17-23)

In these days it would surely be a very foolish individual who totally ignored all the warnings, both spoken and visual, until it was ultimately too late to do anything at all about what was just happening, and, fortunately, comparatively few have lost their lives in recent floods.

And yet, very sadly, some people do not heed a far more important warning which leads to a far more serious loss of life - not physical, but a spiritual loss of life!!

"No one has power in the day of death" (Ecclesiastes 8:8)

However,

"He who believes in the Son has everlasting life." (John 3:36)
