Thought for July

"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." [Proverbs 22:6]

The truth of this verse still stands as we remember in prayer all the children (45 of them) who attended at least one meeting during the Bible Club week at the school last month. Of course, Richard, Joy, Anna and Deborah concentrated all the teaching they gave to the boys and girls was Bible-based as the name of the week indicates.

And this reminds us of a group of choruses/songs which can be found in the C.S.S.M. (now the Scripture Union) chorus book:

The best book to read is the Bible,

the best book to read is the Bible.

If you read it every day

it will help you on your way.

Oh, the best book to read is the Bible.

And why? Because the Bible tells us that:

The best friend to have is Jesus,

the best friend to have is Jesus.

He will hear me when I call:

He will keep me lest I fall.

Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus.

And the Bible also tells us:

The best thing to do is to trust Him,

the best thing to do is to trust Him.

And if you on Him depend,

He will keep you to the end.

Oh, the best thing to do is to trust Him.

What's more, it isn't only children who need to read the Bible, to have Jesus as our best friend and to trust Him! What ever our age, we all need to read the Bible, to have Jesus as our best friend and then to trust Him each and every day.

But that's not the end of it! Having Jesus as our best friend and putting our trust in Him means that we also need to share Him with others, in other words, telling others about Jesus - sharing all about Him with family, friends and neighbours.

Another chorus reminds us about the need to tell others about Jesus - by finding them and bringing them to Christ:

Find another, find another,

just as Andrew found his brother,

I another soul would bring

to the feet of Christ my King.
